is simone shin. the main activities are location-scouting, -managing & -production for tv-commercials, advertising photography and occasionally a movie or tv-series.
the premier work area is the Rotterdam-Rijnmond region. Here's where I know all the right places and people. I prefer to combine the scouting & management part but are in no way short of working them apart.

location scouting is a vital process in the pre-production stage of every film and photo. once scriptwriters and (art)directors have decided what general kind of scenery they require for the various parts of their work that cannot be shot in the studio, a search is begun for a suitable location.
typical odd locationrequests: we would like to shoot in Rotterdam but it must not appear to be Rotterdam... it must be the home of a shabby student. let's say a 1000 square feet loft appartment on the top floor... with a view over the Rotterdam skyline that must not appear...

location management is more than placing cones. the location manager is the liaison between the locationowner and the film or photo crew. making the owner get out of bed at 5am, checking the present electrical capacity or get backup, getting the crew park as close to set as possible, getting the municipal permits, informing the neighbourhood, keeping everyone involved satisfied, etc. our good connection with the filmcommisioner and the police might get us that extra inch that you need.

before starting PHorward I was part of the steady crew of Phoxx for about ten years. during that time I met a lot of people in the film / photo business. I got to do some great jobs in Rotterdam. with all that experience and knowledge it would have been a waste not to move forward ...

obviously not everything can be done by 1 person. so when neccessary external parties will be recruited to complete the team. these external parties are often referred to as friends.

other than hanging around my sets our friends are very good for a.o. driving, make-up, plumbing, image manipulation, cooking, demolition, building, tiling, dancing and going to a bar.

born around 40 miles under Seoul, republic of Korea. moved to Ede when i was 2 and to the Hook of Holland at the age of 4; which is technically a Rotterdam borough. worked at the freesia grower to buy beers. at 17 i moved to Rotterdam to start a string of unfinished eduations...

after being done with all the different educations (a.o carpentry college, grafic lyceum, willem de kooning art academy,...) i worked in the ceiling & blinds factory where they -unwillingly- housed giant muskrats. after a while i decided to say goodbye to the giant rats en eventually ended up at Phoxx. besides being in on at or around locations i also design and build websites and (printed) media under my own name.

born at the Lordstown Assembly, Ohio, has been a good buddy for many years at many shoots. his grey looks may seem a bit dull, but it's the inside that counts...

when he's part of a shoot his standard contents include: 2 tables + 4 benches; 1 ez-up with 4 attachable panels; 2x 240L trash containers including bags; safety vest (orange&yellow); traffic cones; blocking tape; additional seats; ciggybins and a box full of small, handy items (e.g. flashlights, clamps, tape, scissors etc).
